What a beautiful fall day to head to the farm. Our class was split up into 4 groups and learned about animal trapping, organic soil, invasive aquatic species, among other things. We also had the opportunity to take a hayride into a cow field to see the calves. Here are a few photos from our trip. We took a moment to embrace our beautiful Tuesday morning. We grabbed our writers notebooks and took them outside to get inspired by the great outdoors. Today we discussed "writing stamina". We defined what writing stamina means and discussed ways to increase our writing stamina. Then we practiced improving our stamina. What an excellent group of writers we have. Learning how to use geography tools to find exact location of objects. The kids were wondering all morning what the lines on the floor were for. We started by viewing a photo of the floor with the same objects in the same location that I took the day before but without the grid lines. They did their best to map the objects and then compared their maps to others at their tables. Then we moved desks and the objects were placed on the floor with the grid lines to be mapped again. This activity opened the door for great discussion. We utilized our heart maps that we created to come up with beautiful poems that were true to the individuality that each of us have. I enjoyed reading each fifth graders piece to the fullest. It was such a fantastic way to get a glimpse into the amazing beings each of them are. A few of them were willing to share their poetry pieces with the world.
Enjoy their masterpieces: Adyson Alexis Ariel Blaine Izzy Hanna Kiely Samantha Aila Dylan Luke Wyatt These students are ones that expressed they were willing to share their poems on the class website, and changed the ownership of the document back to me so that I had sharing capabilities. Quotes from today: "Mine has lots of luster." "Let's categorize by texture." "What should the next category be?" "Yes, let's do shape. Mine is a rectangle." We have been doing our Professor Peabody lesson to review the scientific method. Today we were able get out scales and magnifying glasses. We each have our own random object that we are studying in depth. Here we are at work! On the first day of school our amazing parent association alongside our new principal pulled together a beautiful memorial celebration for Mrs. Bott. Our class came together and wrote kind words to Mrs. Bott and tied them onto one of the many balloons to be released. After the tree dedication Mrs. Bott's daughter Alex spoke. She shared with us how important we all were to Mrs. Bott and how she talked about Cherry Creek often. All the balloons were then released at once and we watched our wishes float into the sky. It was truly a beautiful moment.
Fifth graders at Cherry Creek and Superior Hills took on a fun project where we discussed social media and the use of hashtags in a way to follow trends all over the world. I showed them how I use hashtags as an educator to see what other teachers are doing. We took selfies followed up with a bio and the option to hashtag in our writing. Below our selfies you will see outlines of our arms filled with things that make each one of us unique. We have a very special group of unique fifth graders. |
