Community. respect.educating. inquiry. Life in Ms. Escamilla's 5th grade
Students worked in pairs to fill out their experiment sheets and identify which muscles they would be testing. Then they used their muscles for 3 one minute intervals with only 30 second breaks in between and recorded their results.
When the experiments were over and I restated the hypothesis, "do our muscles tire after use?" I got a very loud "YES!" from the class.

In science we have begun our study on body systems. Beginning with the skeletal system we learned the major bones of the body. The students worked in groups of three to assemble skeletons and labeled the bones. When the flaps of the label were lifted more information about the bone including the common name were found underneath the flap. As we learned more about the skeletal system the groups were challenged to rewrite the lyrics of a song they liked to include 10 bones of the skeletal system and 5 common names of bones as well as other additional facts. The links to the songs were converted into QR codes and taped onto the group's skeleton with lyrics attached. The 5th graders then walked the halls with their Chromebooks and ear buds and listened to each other's masterpieces.
